Why filtration matters here
Most water reaching buildings in Muscat is desalinated or blended, chlorinated for transport, and stored in a roof tank before it reaches the tap. By the time you drink it, it has picked up hardness, chlorine taste, and whatever the tank has collected since it was last cleaned.
On the discharge side, the pressure is different: effluent quality is a permit condition, and a plant that drifts out of spec becomes a regulatory problem before it becomes an engineering one.
How to choose a system
- What’s in the water? Test first. Hardness drives softener sizing, TDS drives RO sizing, and organic load drives STP sizing.
- What’s the actual demand? A four-person home needs a different machine from a café pulling 200 espressos a day, and both are a rounding error next to a 100-bed hospital.
- Who maintains it? A system nobody services is a system that stops working in 14 months.

Frequently asked questions
Is Oman’s tap water safe to drink?
Municipal supply is treated to a standard, but the condition of building storage tanks and pipework varies widely, and hardness and chlorine remain. Point-of-use filtration handles both.
How often do cartridges and membranes need changing?
Sediment and carbon typically every 6 months; RO membranes every 2–3 years, depending on feed water and usage. We schedule this under an AMC.
Can treated effluent be reused for irrigation?
Yes, subject to treatment standard and the conditions attached to your environmental permit. Our consultancy division handles that side.
Do I need a softener if I have RO?
Often yes. RO protects your drinking water; a softener protects your heater, washing machine and taps.
